Today I met Michaela Swan, during her Artist in Residency program at Glasshouse Artlab in Port Macquarie, NSW.
It was great to view the new series of work that she is working on. Michaela is an interdisciplinary artist, predominantly centred in fibres – textiles with performance elements, and sculpture. Her current artist residence program focuses on the production of a new exhibition that will be on show in March 2018.
I find it interesting and rewarding to catch up with fellow artists and see how they work, discuss their art, and just talk about what we are passionate about. As a photographer, it’s interesting to learn how artists in other disciplines use photography for their art. Michaela uses it not only to document the creative process and her finished art works, but as she explained to me sometimes photographs can form the basis of her art.
Michaela grew up on the mid north coast and has returned to the area for this residency.
